How Steiner B’n’B Began

Nearly ten years ago my entire life changed. I hadn’t even realized what was missing when I enrolled in the full-time Waldorf teacher training at the Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California. I didn’t know that the people I would meet would become like family and that this feeling of family would extend to the far corners of the world.

As I write this, I am sitting in my homestay in Nepal where I am taking a year off of class teaching to celebrate the 100th year of Waldorf education by visiting schools around the world. In Kathmandu, I have been teaching as a volunteer for six weeks at the Tashi Waldorf School and already I have family-like connections in Nepal. In a foreign land so far from my home I have found the familiar welcome that comes with sharing the path of Anthroposophy.

As a Waldorf class teacher and a lifelong traveler, I experienced that traveling to trainings or conferences often became cost prohibitive with the price of accommodation for an Airbnb or hotel. I also found that while traveling to new places for vacation, I wanted to visit the local Waldorf school and meet like-minded people from the area within which I was traveling.

Steiner B’n’B was created in partnership with my brother-in-law, Dan Bramall, with the hope of deepening the connectivity within our worldwide movement as well as offering a way to support one another within our larger community. What better way to do this than by opening our homes to each other?

Since announcing Steiner B’n’B to the Waldorf community two months ago, we have received many enthusiastic responses, gathered just over sixty properties and had well over 300 people register as users. We are grateful to all of you who have taken the time to list your home and look forward to gathering many more properties around the world.

If you have not yet listed your home, please consider doing so. When creating your profile take a moment to mention how you are affiliated with the worldwide movement and remember that pictures are a very helpful way to show your potential guest what they can expect. If English is not your native language and you would like help with your property description or just a final edit, please feel free to email me and I will happily help.

As the site grows, I hope to refine our listings, improve usability, and offer new functionality. I continue to invite your valuable feedback – it helps me to better serve the needs of our community.

I look forward to growing this endeavor in collaboration with you, our community. You can support the growth of Steiner BnB by listing your home, using the site, giving me feedback and spreading the word!
